I am trying to draw more people. Drawing from a photo is much easier, the subject never moves!

I have to be fast to get these sketches down as the people are unaware of my interest in them. I am actually quite shy about drawing in a public setting and tend to want to hide in dark corners away from everybody. Of course, this is counter productive since if I am away from everyone, I can’t observe them to sribble the doodles down!

The is no doodle for the 18th because I spent a few hours out in the garden weeding. I wore gloves to protect my hands but in spite of that my finger tips were numb and sore the rest of the day. So I didn’t sketch or write anything! The gardne looks much less disreputable, though.

Some days I feel just like this little boy. But I get up and dust myself off and move on with my life!

Today my youngest got a driver’s permit. After lunch I am going with the kid to buy basic school supplies. There’s a 50ยข sale and I want to take advantage of it. I know there will be more things that will have to be purchased closer to when school starts, and the kid says all the friends have school shopping together plans. School starts in a month.

Hoo Boy. Eventually, I will be able to plug this leak on my wallet. In about another 10 years!

Right now I have to go and call the car insurance company and put the new driver on the policy. I hope it doesn’t cost us too much….

In honor of the newest Harry Potter flick. I haven’t seen it yet. I wait for the crowds to thin out some. I’m not big on crowds. My kid, on the other hand, dressed up as evil Hermoine and went to the midnight release with her big sister and some friends. It took her 30 minutes in the shower to wash all the hair spray out of her hair. LOL

I felt a need for color. Since I am using a felt tip marker, no erasing of errors or mistakes! I like the way this face turned out in spite of the weird perspective on the eyes and grossly out of proportion chin.

I think I will switch over to a pencil for a short time and work on catching up to the rest of my contemporaries over at Watercolor Wednesdays. I have been so busy with all sorts of other things, I haven’t posted a prompt there in quite some time.

I did, indeed, venture out into the world to the writer’s group. They welcomed me with open arms, especially after discovering I had had books previously published.

The attendance was quite small compared to the meeting I remember, but they seemed to be genuinely committed to writing. There were piles of print-outs for contests and such-not to pick up.

Even though I was welcomed, I do not think I will be going back. The members seemed to be very focused on Christian writing. Several of the contests were for Christian places and the speaker for the day was also a Christian writer. (published, by a vanity press that couldn’t even be bothered to make a professional looking web site.)

I stayed through the reading shares. The daily doodle is of the three people who shared and I am almost too embarrassed to post it. It has been so incredibly long since I drew anything from life (I usually use photo reference) and my long absence from this skill area is woefully obvious.

The last woman to read was up and down so fast I didn’t get much done beyond a start to her face.

I shared my PB WIP, which is supposed to be quite humorous. At least everyone else I have read it for has found it funny. Not one of the writer’s group even cracked a smile. It was a bit unnerving. After the reading, there was a break in the meeting and one woman did come up to tell me she really enjoyed the story. Another woman asked for an in/advice on getting published. I gave her the URL to SCBWI. Several more people asked me about getting published, but I really have no magic answer and felt very put on the spot.

After the break was over, there was a business meeting. Typical stuff of groups. I sat through that and tried to be helpful. After the business stuff there was another short break and then they were to introduce the speaker. Since his work seemed to focus on Christian writing, I figured his talk would as well. I decided it would be best for me to leave before he began, as I was already feeling uncomfortable and out of place.

It would be extremely limiting for me to be a member of this group since so much of my work is focused on Wicca and Paganism. Somehow, I don’t think they would welcome that with open arms.

*sigh* Well, at least I made an effort.
