Daily Doodle Aug 16

As you can probably tell by now, I am working on faces.

I spent an absolutely wonderful Saturday with my husband yesterday. After morning errands (which included me mopping the kitchen floor because my midnight snacker left crumbs everywhere in her last forage) were done and lunch consumed, we headed into St. Louis. The SLWHS was having their first annual summer picnic in Tower Grove Park. We met and smoozed for about an hour there and then head off on the shopping list spree for my husband.

He’d been gifted a number of store cards and had an itch to use some of them. I was in complete agreement. So the first store on the stop was Sports Authority. He found and purchased two bottles of “super-duper-special” detergent to get the ‘skunky’ out of his running clothes. They are made out of that special wicking fabric and for some reason the regular laundry soap just can’t get them clean. To say they stink is an understatement. He was overjoyed with his purchase. He also got a mongo lock for his bike so he can take it to work with him and stop at the trail to ride on the way home from work. His new job has him out in the cubicle land with the rest of the accountants instead of a cushy office of his previous job. So no way to bring a bike inside with him. I got a new folding chair to replace the one that died over Memorial day weekend and a tube of seam sealer for the tents.

Our mission finished in that store and we went off to Office Max. He needed a two-hole punch. I have a single-hole and a three-hole punch which is adjustable but he was adamant. He needed a two-hole punch. I needed flat folder sized envelopes, so off we went.  I also grabbed a day timer for next year because I always seem to get appointments in the next year before I have a place to write them down.  Two down.

Of course, since we were in the city AND it was dinner time — someone mentioned sushi. I’m not saying who, the guilty party knows who it is. The announcement was made to see if Tokyo Sushi had reopened. Sadly, the restaurant had closed earlier this year due to a kitchen fire. Kind of ironic, a sushi restaurant having a kitchen fire, but there you have it. There was a white banner with red letters flying on the outside proclaiming their openess! Yeah! So we had sushi for dinner.

Dinner was made of yum, although I once again ordered salmon roe (which don’t like) instead of smelt roe (which I do like). You would think after decades of sushi consumption I would be able to get that right without having to ask my husband. This time he was not there to ask when the waitress came to take our order, having gone to the restroom.

He is made of win and when the order came with the wrong roe, he ordered the right roe and presented it to me with a flourish. Yum.

Dinner consumed and paid for, I was ready for nappage. Husband decided he needed to go to the book store. I am never one to turn down time in a book store so happily accompanied him into the store and proceeded to procure the last copy of “Shiver” on the shelf. Yeah! I also went over to the art books. Bad, bad me. Book buying twice in the same week. I ought to be flogged. And when the credit card bill comes, I will probably do so.

I got a thick reference book. HUNDREDS of faces in every conceivable position and portraying a huge variety of facial expressions. The only drawback of the book is they start with models at age 20ish. No kids. It’s okay, I can adapt. I also found a nice coffee table sized book of Mucha’s drawings. It’s really nice to be able to see the unfinished and draft process of this incredible artist’s work.

Daughter is talking to me so this is done now. 🙂
