Have you ever wondered where the phrase “in a blue moon” came from? This sturgeon coloring page is for this week’s Sturgeon Full Moon, which is also a blue moon of the much rarer variety. Common wisdom has the blue moon happening when there are two full moons in the same month. Originally, a blue moon referred to the other type. This is when there are 4 full moons occurring in the same season. The third full moon is called the blue moon. Find out the full story over at space.com.
August’s full moon is called the Sturgeon Full Moon because August was the month the Great Lakes Native American fished the sturgeon. They were supposed to be easiest to catch during this time of year.
