Saturday we went out for a Valentine’s dinner of sushi. As is our habit we went to the book store for dessert. Since I have a huge pile of books I have yet to read at home already, I didn’t peruse the stacks, but instead went to the magazine racks. I found a new issue of Altered Couture and spent the balance of the evening happily reading all the articles. And thinking to myself, “But I can do that.”
So on Sunday, I did that! I had a T-shirt that was too long and tight in the hips and too loose everywhere else, and a silk shell that never fit properly, so I didn’t wear it. But being frugal like I am I couldn’t throw it out. After all, it was SILK!
The first thing to do was figure out what to make. I decided on a relaxed, but fitted flutter sleeve button from top. I had the thread and buttons already, so it was only a matter of deconstructing the old shirts enough to cut out the pieces for the new shirt. For some reason my sewing machine snags the thread and I have to keep replacing the upper thread because it breaks and skips stitches. So the seams got a little raggedy because of the repeated stitching. It’s a new machine, so it must be something I am doing improperly. I hope I figure it out soon. I like being able to sew without interruption. The result was the shirt took me a bit longer than I anticipated. Here is the finished product.
